DNA Samples Needed from All Border Collies
The modern science of genomics can now help to identify the targets of selection in the natural history of the domestic dog, as well as to identify the genes that contribute to health problems. The Program for Canine Health and Performance is dedicated to studying the genetics behind specific traits and disorders in many representative dog breeds. The knowledge gained can be leveraged to improve diagnostics and refine treatments, ultimately benefiting both canine and human patients.
We are currently investigating several disorders within the Border Collie breed: Epilepsy, Adult Onset Deafness, and Noise Phobia.
